My original compositions for films I’ve worked on

“My Happiest memories”

This short film is based around a poem. There is no dialog within the film, which leaves just the footage and music responsible for being able to capture the emotion of the poem being read. The themes of the film are nostalgia, depression and the feeling of home. The author talks about her emotional journey in returning to Australia after living abroad in Portugal for two years. The score I made for the film is minimalistic with just acoustic guitar, piano and some synthesisers. I aimed to capture the feeling of “saudade” in this film, saudade is a Portugese word often used in poetry and Fado performances and it describes the feeling of longing, melancholy or nostalgia.

“Fathers home”

Fathers Home is a psychological thriller which depicts the devastating aftermath of the death of a husband/father. A haunted house and a possessed widow. I used a more traditional score approach with this film, using an orchestra. Big intense staccato cello notes accompanied by loud timpani’s helped to give this scene the intensity it so rightly deserved.

“Wild man”

Wild man is an adventurous film depicting a man who believes that there is a monster in the woods and he is determined to find it. In the beginning the man is hopeful and adamant that he he will find the creature, but countless days of searching with no success leave him feeling defeated, until…

I used a combination of acoustic guitar arpeggios and melodies with orchestral strings for this piece. I felt the “cabin in the woods” vibe really called for the acoustic guitar.

“the glitch”

The Glitch is a sci-fi spectacle showcasing a man who believes that the moon is “glitching”. Despite his fathers great distain for his ever-consuming obsession, the protagonist is determined to discover this great mystery.

This film called for synths, lots of them. A lot of experiemental sound design occured within my production process in this project, you can hear the big difference in sounds that are happening within in the first clip on the top, compared to the bottom clip. There is a big rise in tension throughout the film, with a final grand climax.
